PROJECT BACKGROUND
Swinburne University of Technology’s Hawthorn Library has undersone a significant refurbishment,
by retrofitting 4,585sqm of existing library space. Their objective was to create engaging spaces that will facilitate collaborative learning, achieve spatial efficiencies and create a contemporary learning environment that increases interest, amenity and access for students. As part of the project scope, both electrical and mechanical systems have been upgraded during the refurbishment.
Due to this live environment, extra planning was required to sperate students and staff form the construction works to ensure safety and to minimise disruptions.
SCOPE OF SERVICES
Gallagher Jeffs managed the entire project life cycle, including reporting, design coordination, programme, cost, procurement of a contractor and contract administration, whilst providing minimum disruption to operations in a live environment.
STATUS
Level 1 is now home to a 24-hour study centre, which comprises a student study space with a variety of individual and group workspaces. A new 24-hour entry point from John Street has now been created, providing students direct access into the study centre.
