The MONA project is a privately commissioned Museum and Art Gallery, designed to house the collection of the client and is open to the public. MONA is located at Moorilla Estate winery in Hobart Tasmania and is accompanied, by a number of other recently completed buildings, including the refurbished winery, new and refurbished accommodation pavilions, a new library incorporating galleries and a sculpture pavilion.
Throughout its first year of operation, some 400,000 visitors attended MONA far exceeding the client's expectations and placing it as Tasmania’s No. 1 tourist attraction.
This project comprised 6,000 square metres of gallery spaces and a further 3,000 square meters of private galleries and back of house areas, as well as extensive external pavements, sculpture courtyards and art display areas.
Superintendent
Gallagher Jeffs initial appointment was to act as superintendent under the contract as an impartial adjudicator of the contract.
Gallagher Jeffs represented Moorilla Estate as their Superintendent on this project and additionally has also acted on behalf of Moorilla Estate in a Project Management capacity to assist with design development, design management and contractor management, both on MONA and the other projects completed on the site.
The complex nature of the project resulted in a complex contract, Gallagher Jeffs worked with Moorilla Estate, Moorilla’s legal team and the project team to establish a delivery model and appropriate contract to suit the projects requirements.
